Q. I am looking for black metal dye - Gun dye will not work unless it works with stainless steel.

A. Hi Scott,
Gun dye and metal dye are search terms that don't seem to not work very well. "Alcohol ink" refers to the same thing but seems to work well on search engines.

Still, rather than dye, you might possibly be looking for a black oxide / gun bluing process that works well on stainless steel.
