Painting metal eyeglass frames?

I would like to paint a pair of metal eyeglass frames. I just got them & hate them. Optometrist says I cannot just buy a new pair of frames as the lenses won't fit. Unfortunately, they cost almost $500 and I cannot afford to replace them.

Is there a product I could use to change the color from gold to something dark?
