Can you paint on top of Aluchrome [Scotland]

June 6, 2006

I am having trouble with paint adherance on Aluchrome parts.
My sub contract paint plant tells me that it is very difficult to obtain good adhesion on top of aluchrome.

Is he telling me all.

He may be telling you all he knows, but he is not telling you all.

Chromate conversion coatings are the "standard" for prepaint treatment of aluminum. Like anything else, they need to be done right; right for pretreatment application is different than right for final finish.

For one thing, the chromate for pretreatment must be very thin so it can't shear off.
