-----Plating Copper onto U.S. Nickels
My name is Charles Smith and I was wondering if you can plate copper on to ordinary nickels? If not then what would be a good substitute for the nickels that I could find easily. Thank you

Copper on nickel is not problem at all. It is the normal way to plate steel when you can't use cyanide copper to plate copper nickel chrome.
First nickel can be dull without brightener -- only wetting agent and carrier Watt's nickel or acid Wood's nickel ⇦ huh?.

Hi, Charles. We have an FAQ that may help -- "Electroplating: How It Works"; copper sulphate ⇦ on eBay or Amazon [affil link] at 1-1/2 volts should be okay for a school experiment. Good luck!
