Phosphate substitute?

-

We're looking for a substitute for our present zinc phosphate process. We primarily phosphate to enhance the shelft life of steel parts made in-house. This process uses 180 degree F coating bath and hot rinse before and after.

Our goal is reduce cost while improving the waste treatment costs. Thanks. jb

John, phosphate is pretty basic as far as plating options go. You can try a room temp. black oxide with an oil or wax seal. You can also look at conventional or mechanical galvanizing if the parts lend themselves to that type of coating.

There is a product manufactured by International Chemical Products, Inc., located at Huntsville, AL, which will replace zinc phosphate (also chromate) and provide a very long term corrosion protection indoors with just the coating, while the surface is totally prepared for any finishing.
