Anodizing for Mic-6 and C-250 [Israel]

January 17, 2006

We use both alloys C-250 or Mic-6 depending on availabilty for our products. The plates are about 30" x 24" x 0.5". The plates go thru a procces of Hard anodizing and then black impregnating. We recieve different shades of black (which is easely seen due to the large size of the plates). What can we do (process wise) to achive better consistency in the black color?

The problem is that MIC-6 is a cast aluminum tooling plate that was / is designed as a replacement or alternative to 7075 alloy.

On occassion, finding hotspots in the material would not be unheard of to me. Its been awhile since I had a part of MIC-6 in the sizes you note (and some larger), but I've seen it before, and repeating the process, stripping and re-anodizing does not solve the situation. Its very much a material sourcing issue that can't be resolved reasonably in a finishing operation most of the time.
