-----Chrome-free coating for pretreatment of car bodies?
I am a ChE student at Oregon State University and am doing research on pre-painting coating processes for car bodies. The process is a phosphate conversion coating but my question is regarding the post-treatment: Is there an alternative to using chromic acid in an immersion chrome/water rinse stage? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

It sounds as though you have a particular process in mind which uses a chrome rinse after phosphate coating, but I haven't heard of it.
Do you have a specification number you can give to us on-line?

Hi, Ilanya. If the body is to be electrocoated, and most are, I think it is pretty common to just use DI water as the rinse after phosphate and before e-coat.
