Letter 3837 Clear coat over Tremclad paint- Hi. I am refinishing an old bicycle frame. I have sand-blasted and primed the frame with Zinc Chromate primer. I have painted 5 coats of Tremclad rust paint over the two coats of primer and also detailed decorative paint over this. My question is: what kind of clearcoat should I use for this type of paint. I believe that tremclad is an oil based paint. should I use a Lacquer, Enamel or Varnish type of clearcoat on this paint? Thank you John John Sodja
. My home (26 yrs. old ) has aluminium siding only inside the front porch . This siding has faded from the original dark brown, to a dull dark brown . I need to find a product that will brighten it up , as well as add some shine . Your help in this matter would be of great help . dave alfieri
. Speaking as a fellow homeowner who had a similar situation, I went out and bought brown latex house paint, and had no major problem in simply washing and repainting the siding, although the adhesion is not perfect and you can scrape the new paint off. You can also consider "Everbright", a clearcoat that restores brightness by smoothing the finish. They say if the siding looks good wet, it will look good with their clearcoat.
+ I have a wrought iron railing in my back stairs. When it was installed, it was painted by the contractor. I do not what type of paint he used. Rust stains appeared one year later, which sanded and wire brushed and covered with a coat of Tremclad white rust paint. The rust stains reappear each year and I go through the same process each time. What can I do to solve this problem. Ron Maki
