Gold plating pewter

+++++

I have a pewter pendant that I would like to gold plate. Is that a special process such as nickel plating first? I was told by a relative that is fairly new to the industry that it could not be done. What are your thoughts, please.

Yes, you could specify that the plating shop bright nickel plate and then gold plate the pendant if you wish. Without the nickel it would probably require an unaffordable amount of gold plating to get a bright finish. The pewter may need hydrofluoric acid activation, but that shouldn't be your problem either.
