Want to CHROME a
HELMET
-
Looking to paint a helmet (Myself) but part of the scene is
Chrome. Can I have this done...
and if so where.
Do i paint the rest of the helmet first or after the plating is
done?

We suggest that you achieve this chrome finish appearance by means
of a paint process. It is not advisable to seek a company that can
plate you helmet and it would be one of the most expensive helmets in
the USA, if you found a source. Regards.

Brad,
I would be very concerned with attempting to plate the helmet to
achieve this effect due to the possible material / physical changes
that could happen during the process. I am assuming that the helmet
is a piece of safety equipment and not just decorative.
Most sign shops and hobby stores offer adhesive backed mylar that
is chrome in appearance. You could probably paint over the mylar (I
would test for adhesion and reaction first). If adhesion is a big
issue, there is a material called "bare metal" that is used to
simulate chrome on scale models. It is essentially adhesive backed
aluminum foil. It would probably require a good clear coat for
protection.
You should also contact the manufacturer of the helmet to find out
what paint finishes they recommend on their product. Paint solvents
may also change the propreties of the helmet material.
Hope that this helps
