-----Advice on How to Tarnish Brass
1999
Dear Metal Finishing Representative,
I have recently acquired parts of an antique lamp and am making it a project to rebuild and restore it. I have a brass base and many different parts to work with. My question addresses the brass base. I would like to have a tarnish-look about the brass, but have yet to figure out how to achieve this. I know brass tarnishes when exposed to air, but I was hoping for a quicker and more effective way of tarnishing the brass. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Danielle M Franz- Santa Barbara, California
Hi, Danielle. There are ways of doing it with ammonia ⇦ on eBay or Amazon [affil link] vapors if you search this site for "ammonia patina brass", but the easiest way is probably to just buy a small vial of brass darkening solution ⇦ on eBay or Amazon [affil link] . Good luck.
Regards,
