-----Gold Electroplating
I am looking for any methods of electroplating gold on to nickel based alloys. The method does not have to produce a bright finish, but a depth of 1-5 microns would be required. If anyone has any information It would be much appreciated.

Dear Phil , What you want to do is a little out of the ordinary and I suggest that you contact one of the "Specialist" suppliers , and I suggest "Technic", they have a representative office in London . If this fails then try "Degussa" who also have offices in London . Best regards

I disagree about 1-5 microns being out of the ordinary. Typical commercial and military engineering specs for gold start at about 20 microinches (0.5 microns) and go as high as 200 microinches (5 microns) or more. Any reputable gold process supplier can help you with this, including the ones John listed.

I am looking for a supplier to electro plate Gold onto 6-4 ELI titanium for a medical implant application. The objective is to increase the radio-opacity of the titanium part. Any information or caveats is greatly appreciated.

I am trying to introduce a gold electroplating bath for my job shop. We do custom automotive work.
I followed a formula for 14K cyanide gold. The formula was: .2 oz/gal Potassium gold Cyanide, .2 0z/gal Copper cyanide, 4-5 oz /gal dipotassium phosphate.
I mixed together and the plate looks like copper, not gold. How do I bring out the "gold" Color?

Hello Douglas. Any particular reason for trying to make your own homebrew bath instead of doing what 99 percent of the experts do, i.e., buying a proprietary gold plating solution?

G'day, The color of 14ct gold is coppery. If you want a yellow looking gold then go for 24ct. don't add the CuCn when you make up your bath.

Ask a library for a copy of the Metal Finishing Guidebook. That will give you a good start.
