Chroming plastic parts for the food industry

+++++

I am producing several hundred plastic ABS parts that need a metallic finish. They will be used in the food industry so they need to be FDA approved. Can anyone suggest a process similar to chrome plating / metallising.

These parts are going to be produced in China.

It depends what type of environment are the parts going to be exposed to? Acid fruit juices, onion, garlic, vinegar, salt?

Nickel and zinc plating are both accepted by the FDA

I hope to heck the FDA has a program where they charge the manufacturer to evaluate a product and get a seal, much like UL does, but I doubt it.

Nothing jingoistic here, everyone is welcome to compete on fair ground; but for American mfgrs to be taxed to pay the cost of the FDA bureaucracy's evaluating Australian designed products from Chinese factories is a bit much :-)
