Shotpeening Theory

I am an research scholar working on effect of shotpeening on the fatigue strength of the closed coil springs. I want the basic theory regarding shotpeening. I hope you will help me in this regard.

I only know that shotpeening introduces compressive stresses into the surface of an article and, by so doing, tends to prevent formation and propagation of tensile stress cracks (which lead to fatigue failure). But you learned that in the first 5 minutes of your coursework, and are probably looking for detailed data about depth vs. hardness, etc.

I think you'll want to do a computerized search of the published literature (not a www search) and collect some books. Good luck.
