Coating thickness of zinc plating and galvanising

I am a design engineer working for a company involved in the design and manufacture of small scale textile machinery. I have an MS bright shaft of dia 25mm and length 1800mm. I need to rust proof this shaft without significantly altering the shaft diameter. (max. permissible coating thickness is about 0.050mm) what would be the best solution. is it zinc-plating or galvanising.

Dear Mr Shenoy,

Zinc plating may be the cheaper alternative if you won't use Electroless Nickel plating. Why not look at Cathodic Electro Deposited Paint (E-Coat) which will looks great on textile machinery?
