Electroplating project--how to get data from electroplating? [British Columbia]

++++

Hi,

I'm doing a grade 8 science project, and I wanted to do a electroplating project. My teacher told me that I need to measure something in electroplating, and I couldn't simply demonstrate it. I need to have a measurement, since I'm doing an experiment and I need it for my dependant variable...Could you suggest any projects that I could do with electroplating that INVOLVES HAVING DATA (MEASUREMENTS) and possibly the procedures, materials?

THANKS!

I think you have a smart teacher, Vivien! The idea of an experiment is to obtain data to confirm or refute a hypothesis.

Two easy to measure and control variables are time and voltage. Pick one of those for your experiment. You could either electroplate at 1-1/2 volts (one battery) for 30 seconds, 2 minutes, 8 minutes, and 32 minutes. Or you could electroplate at 1/1/2 volts, 3 volts (2 batteries), and 4-1/2 volts (3 batteries) for 4 minutes and compare the results.
