White crystal deposits on galvanized steel for in ground pool

I am a new home buyer and there is an in ground pool of about one year in my back yard so after removing the liner in the pool I discoverd a good amount of a white deposit on the galvanized steel. I would like to know what substance might it be and if it could be harmful for our health. Also I would like to know if the galvanized steel will be affected by it.

I would guess that it could be Zinc Choloride, the galvanized finish on the metal could have reacted with the chlorine that is commonly used in pools to keep things from growing in them. Keep in mind that is a guess, it could also be zinc oxide due to the Ph in your pool causing the metal to oxidize.
