-----A protective layer for old gasoline tanks
Help... I'm doing a restoration project on an old motorcycle. I need a protective layer inside the gas tank to keep rust from destroying the tank and out of the carburetors. The tank has been obsoleted by the manufacturer, so purchase of a new one is not possible. I'd prefer a metal coating on the inside of the steel [formed sheet metal] tank. The tank holds approximately 3 gallons, and has not had gasoline in it for years. It is clean and in good condition, with very little rust, accordingly now is the time to prevent further problems from rust formation. I took it to a hot dip galvanizer who could not handle the job, he suggested an electroplater. This is the only phase of the project that is not completed. I'm not a metallurgist, so I'm not sure how to handle this problem... Thanx...

I once had some parts nickel plated (electroplated) for a reasonable price by a large plating firm that added my order to another project. The plating seems to have prevented any degradation of the parts.
The plating company was very helpful.
