Nickel finish removed from copper sink

Our customer has a copper sink electroplated with a hammered satin nickel finish and it appears when we cleaned it we removed most of the finish. This is a 4 year old bar sink that retails for $1500. Can it be refinished? Where can I find someone? How long should the finish last? Should a sponge and a mild abrasive take the nickel finish off?
