Satin nickel plating

-

Dear Sir, I would like your advice on:-

1) SATIN NICKEL PLATING ON ZINC DIE CASTING BASE METAL ELECTROPLATING.
2) An exhaustive trouble shooter for the same.
3) Help to maintain the bath for zinc and copper tolerance and the remedy to it.
4) Help on filtering process and the available media and the sequence of the process.
5) Duration of the emulsifier life etc.

Awaiting an earliest acknowledgement. Thanking you in anticipation.

All of these answers are usually included in the technical data sheet for the process. If your vendor cannot supply them, the next best resource would be The Canning Handbook, which has a chapter on satin nickel that covers most of these questions.

Satin nickel is a very delicate process. It needs every day filtering, special agitation etc. As Ted already mentioned, your vendor must have all the answers to you questions ( I hope you have a vendor and you are not trying a home brewing product). if not, look for another supplier.

Two excellent reference books, one of which is more practical and one of which is more theoretical are:

  • Electroplating of Zinc Diecastings S.K. Jalota [available from AESF at https://www.aesf.org/bookstore/home2.cfm?ProductID=344&do=detail]
  • Nickel and Chromium Plating J.K. Dennis and T.E. Such [available used from Abebooks]

These will start you on the beginning of understanding both Nickel Plating and Zinc Diecastings as a substrate.
