Effects of galvanized steel types on cathode Electroplating KTL
++++
Our experience shows different adhesion quality of e-coating paint, on different galvanized steels (we work with many suppliers from many resources), appearance differs in spangle size, but this is not significant. I would appreciate if anybody can contribute from his experience to this topic to help us avoid failures.

The biggest issue is the post-treatment--whether the material has received a chromate conversion coating, a phosphate coating, or neither. Galvanized surfaces that are to be painted should not be chromate conversion coated. The galvanizers associations--I think www.galvanizeit.org is a good starting point--have booklets covering the painting of galvanized surfaces, which they refer to as 'duplex coating'.
