Need silver etch

I need to find chemicals for etching copper and silver. Nitric acid?

Your question is too vague for me, Catrina. Please provide a little detail about what you are trying to do. Prepare metallurgical specimens for micrographs, engrave something in jewelry, remove rough edges (not really an etching operation), dissolve circuit traces on PWBs? Thanks.

I would like to know if there is an etching acid that I can purchase to etch sterling silver. I am working on a small silver ring. A lot of the chemical compounds mentioned in some of the discussions are not readily available to me in the US.

Thank you for your assistance.
