Hydrogen Embrittlement Tests

I'm a bit confused with the ASTM F519-97 Hydrogen Embrittlement Test spec, along with the AMS specs that require it. The phrase "plating process" is used numerous times, and within our company there are two different interpretations: 1) The entire plating line, using any plating tank within that line (ie: Nickel tank # 2 if there are 5 nickel tanks) and 2) The entire plating line using each Nickel plating tank for a separate test. If I have 5 nickel plating tanks, one cleaner, one acid, etc., must I test each of these nickel tanks to qualify the process under this standard? Help!

Unless you have a customer approved exemption, you have to test each tank. Simply put, they are not "exactly" identical after the first plating job goes thru them. You might want to look at reserving one or two tanks for "specification work". Greene Specialties is an excellent company for doing notch bar testing. Price is better than average also.
