Electrospark coating technology or micro welding

++++

I am a surface engineer in one of science and technology labs in India and design electrospark coating units. Now my question is "what is dependency of pulse duration of the spark current on the coating quality of electrospark coating". I have tried 2 msec to 100 microsecpulses and do not find any reasonable change in quality, but read in an old article that pulse duration affects the coating quality. My another question is " What exactly controls the standoff distance (arc gap)in welding between work piece and electrode". Is it voltage alone if it is voltage may I know some figures like so many volts will have so many mm length arc gap?.Any suggested books particularly for this aspect.

What is the difference between ESD (or ECS) other coating methods? What is advantage or disadvantage?

ESC and ESD are both same it can also be called as pulsed electrode surfacing, ESA and spark hardening etc.
