Hot Sealing with PVC lined tank [Saudi Arabia]

WE are planning to convert one PVC lined tank into hot sealing. Will the PVC withstand at the temperature of 98 Deg C ? Please comment.

I think it's a bad idea, Mr. Mohammed. The tank lining manufacturers recommend 140 - 150 deg F. max. I've seen it used successfully at about 160 deg. F, but 98 deg C (about 208 deg. F) is way too high. I think you should consider a stainless steel seal tank or a more exotic higher-temperature lining.

What Ted said is l00% correct ... none of even the dual laminate (armoured with fibreglass) common thermoplastics such as PP or CPVC would be any good ... only the more expensive PVDF (140 degr. C) or the exotic fluorocarbons (200 degr. C) would be OK. Anyhow, PVC:FRP's max continuous temperature would only be 80 C.

If you don't mind me saying so, I'm rather suprised that your Company does not have a chart on the thermoplastics !!!

If stainless is OK, I don't know. Maybe a steel tank with a fibreglass lining (using only the most suitable polyester or vinylester resin) might be OK but scratch resistance-wise, then stainless would be far better.
