Metal finishing Q&As since 1989

Need ultrathin Fe and Ni coatings on silicon

I need to deposit Fe and Ni coatings extremely thin (no more than 1nm thick) over oxidized Silicon wafers. I want to know if there is a simple, reproducible way by electroplating or electroless methods.

1nm is only 10 Angstroms and this is only a few atoms thick. You will find it difficult to quantitatively detect it, let alone ensure it is evenly distributed. Your best option will be to sputter coat the metal onto the substrate.
