What is the process for aluminum chemical brightening

2003

We are a group of students in surface treatment of aluminum and we need some information on chemical brightness.
What we need is:
- electrical preparation
- furnitures( where we can get it, what we need)
- Process !

- Do you know if some business do it in Québec
Please send me a message, our advancement depends on you! Excuse me for the English, I'm a French person.

Thank you

Roberto Chevarie
student - Québec, Canada

Bright dipping of aluminum is done in a mixture of nitric and phosphoric acid at approximately the boiling point. The solution is toxic, evolving copious NOx fumes, and it attacks almost any container you put it in (316L stainless steel is the best), so it's not great stuff for a school experiment. You can find out more with search terms such as "Alzak", "aluminum brite dipping", "aluminum bright dipping", and "aluminum reflectors". You may be able to contact Alcoa about this.

But if your advancement is dependent upon the charity of strangers rather than upon your own efforts, you might as well just hold out a tin cup  🙂
