How to remove paint from a sea urchin shell [Arizona]

I am a seashell collector and was given a very large sea urchin shell. Unfortunately, someone painted it bright red. I would like to return it to its original condition. I tried oil based paint thinner/remover with no appreciable results. Also soaked it in bleach. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.
