Q. We want to apply epoxy lacquer to 20 microns of aluminum foil on 4 meter lamination tunnels. Heat is a maximum 200 degrees; minimum speed: 50 m/min. Could please help us with this problem?

I'm not sure that I understand. You have aluminum foil 20 microns thick, or do you want the epoxy lacquer to be 20 microns thick? This is running on a reel-to-reel coil coating machine at 50 meters per minute? And you need it to cure within a 4 meter long curing oven?

A. It is not clear from your question as to the purpose of the coating. Please elaborate your question to get a better solution.

If your purpose is to coat 20 micron hard temper foil to make it heat resistant and printable, then instead of Epoxy you can use a number of different types of heat resistant primer coatings to make foil suitable for subsequent printing.

One alternative would be to use nitrocellulose with some two component polyurethane resin plus hardener [to improve adhesion and heat resistance].

Alternatively there are a number of different thermosetting acrylics either self cross linking or two component systems.

Rohm and Haas have a number of products. There are several other suppliers.

Morton now a Rohm and Haas subsidiary also offers a number of formulated coatings/ primers and they would certainly be able to help.

Hope this is helpful in resolving your problem.
