Comparison test between 316 (0.08% carbon) and 316L(0.03% carbon)

Kindly let us know test to differentiate Steel of 316 grade from Steel of 316 L grade that can be performed at vendor site. Also pl. let us know the other tests for comparison between 316 (0.08% carbon) and 316L(0.03% carbon) . I'll be thankful to you.

They are available from some of the manufacturers of optical emission spectrometers, portable units that use optic fibre links between a hand-held arc unit and the data capture/processing unit.

I believe that using such equipment is the only way you will be able to distinguish the two grades on-site. You simply have to do a chemical analysis of each piece and see what the actual carbon content is in each case.
