Olive green passivation as substitute to yellow passivation




Why is olive green passivation over Zinc plating on MS not widely used as Yellow passivation over Zinc plating? Is it because of any technical reason or purely commercial reason?

It's a bit more expensive, and perhaps not as aesthetically pleasing.

Because it is an ugly color to most people. It has superior corrosion resistance to yellow because it is a thicker film.

Both. The olive drab finish provides more corrosion protection but is more costly. It is frequently used for military hardware and as an undercoat for paint.
