Letter 1958 -- Dear Sirs, Yours sincerely Sandor Sziveszter
Sandor, You have provided so little information that the only answer one can give is that it is as simple to coat wood as it is to coat metals. If you can provide information about the type of wood products, their use, etc then a response can be tailored to suit. Mario Pennisi
Sandor: My only question is how will you make the wood conductive enough to accept this type coating. Edward Koneczny
As far as I understand does it not today exist methods that give sufficiently good result, especially at the edges and in the milled slots. At my institute we are very active in this area and I think within a year or two there will be methods that give a acceptable result. The wood will be conductive by expose it to moisture. Some reports say that a moisture content of 6 % (by weight) is enough. This value corresponds to a relative humidity of appr. 50 %. Stefan Hjort
I have never heard of powder coating organic materials. I do know that an immersion process would work. Occasionally, we do "small lot" orders in order to preserved wood artifacts for museums and/or artists. Todd Miller
++ I BELIEVE THAT WOOD MAY ACCEPT A POWDER COATED FINISH IF FIRST COATED WITH A METAL SPRAY. MY EQUIPMENT WILL SPRAY HOT MOLTEN METAL PARTICLES ON TO A SURFACE (SUCH AS WOOD)WHILE COOL ENOUGH TO PREVENT DAMAGE, THUS ALLOWING A POWDER COATED FINISH TO BE APPLIED. Patrick McConaghie
++ We have been coating medium density fiberboard for 4 years now for the office furniture industry. It works great and is a one coat process. Rick Lemson
+++ We have very successfully powder coated MDF Boards . Pradeep Kapoor
Dear Reader: please choose what you want to do.
