Antique Iron Cleaning (brass) [California]

I have some antique irons from China. They look like they need a good cleaning. They seem to be brass. The center of the iron is like a pot. That is the place the hot coals were put and the bottom (outside) was then rubbed on the cloths . . . any ideas ?
