Seeking someone to electroplate osmium
++
I am a chemistry professor, and one of my topics of research
involves the element osmium. I am looking for a company that can
electroplate a fairly thick layer of osmium onto a metal rod.
Ideally, I would like to have an electroplated layer about 0.02" to
0.06" thick plated onto a rod that is about 0.25" in diameter, 2" in
length. The substrate can be just about anything, and could be chosen
to make the electroplating process simpler. I could provide a
stainless steel or copper rod, for example. I will be using this
electroplated rod as a source of osmium atoms in the gas phase, which
will be formed by focussing a pulsed laser onto the rod surface. To
prevent other metal atoms from being vaporized, I need to have the
fairly thick coating that I described above. If you know of a company
that could undertake this project, please send me an e-mail to let me
know.
Thanks very much,
