Aluminum tray from 40's needs touch up paint  

 

I have an aluminum tray that has been painted. (leaves flowers,etc.) I want to touch the paint up where when washed some of the paint came off. It will be hung on a wall when redone. Do I use a specific type of paint to touch it up such as oil or water based paint??? The tray is large, somewhat oval and was bought in forties. Do I have to treat it or prime it in some way because it just needs a touch up?
