Etching and electropolishing of 316L - equations, explanations and basic theory 

Hi,

I am student and my project is focused in etching and electropolishing of 316L - stainless steel for medical devices. I would be glad if someone could give me a clue about etching and electropolishing literature. I would like to know how to control removed metal. I don't know how to control these electrochemical processes. I need equations, explanations and basic theory.
