Letter 110 Need improved aluminum coating for oil well service----- I need a coating over low carbon steel strip that surpasses the corrosion resistance of standard G-70 hot dipped galvanized strip used to armor cables which see service in Oil Wells. The environment has high temperatures (up to 400 F), Brine, CO2 and H2S. Aluminized and Galvalume work well unformed, but the roll forming process we use causes micro-cracking at the steel (iron) interface of these improved coatings. I am wondering if a zinc to aluminum interface may be less susceptible to cracking. I am able to get large quantities of surplus automotive heavy coat (70 g/70 g) electro zinc galvanized. I would like to top coat this material with a coating that will work better than standard hot dip galvanized in the above environment. Aluminum is noted as a material that performs better in the above environment than does zinc, although I know that it is not typically coated over or laminated to zinc. Do you think that in an aggressive environment that the aluminum will sacrificially protect steel (i.e., with oxide layer dissolved)? Do you have any other ideas? JDeiner
. Dear sir Hello, I,Masoud rezaei saman kandi, postgraduate student of corrosion engineering and part-time researcher in Niroo Research Institute(NRI)am dealing investigation of producer coating, microstructure, corrosion behavior of 55%Al-Zn coating on steel. I would be obliged if you could give me general information or some clues in this regard. Also for running the corrosion field tests I need to have some specimens by dimension 10x15 cm of 55%Al-Zn coated steel sheets. I would be grateful if you could consider to have mutual cooperation with me in this subject and wish to thank you in advance for your kind attention. I am looking forward to hearing from you in near future. Sincerely yours, Masoud Rezaei
. Hello There, I was born in Iran too but I work as a materials engineer. Does 55%Al,Zn work on the low alloy steel surface at high temperatures? It appears that Zn has a low melting point. I am looking for a coating for up to 1000 F to 1200 F in natural gas environment with potential traces of atmospheric gases and water. Kambiz Dianatkhah
