Seeking supplier of Medallion Liquid Gold do-it-yourself gold plating system

-----

This is probably a bit out of the usual but I am trying to find a supplier of a do it yourself gold plating system that trades with a shopping channel here in the UK. The products here are branded as Medallion. I believe they are a US based company. Any ideas?   Hope you can help

Although I haven't personally used it, the Medallion System is an immersion gold plating chemistry for home use. Rather than involving electroplating, it relies on the principle that gold is more noble than other metals, so if you expose another metal to the solution, the gold atom will replace the atom of the other metal, and the other metal will go into solution. The process therefore stops at a few atoms thick as soon as the base metal is no longer exposed, and can therefore create only very thin coatings--but it may be okay for decorative home use.

If you want real electroplating for greater thickness, or uses other than decorative, you might inquire of Gold Touch, Liquid Development Corp., and Sifco. Good luck.

I have been searching for the gold dip solution I once used, and saw a couple of posts asking for it as well, I kept searching and I ran across the Medallion one. I found it at www.medallionprod.com. I think they also sell it there.

It's not the kind I used to use but same idea.

It's not a great way to electroplate but if someone is just wanting a bit of a brush up on their items like I was..its nice to find it and I came back here to share the info!

We inherited what looks like gold plated silverware but the gold is worn off. Any advice on how to refinish it.

If you want the silverware for show, Rachel, you can probably get some gold color on it with the previously mentioned Medallion rub-on stuff. If you want the kind of gold thickness that would suit actual flatware use though, I think you probably need to send it to an electroplating shop for replating. Good luck.

Ed. note: Last time we checked, Medallion Gold was available on e-bay. Good luck. If it's still available as you read this, click where you see it in the picture at right =>

If the picture at right shows a guy in his pajamas or a busty bimbo hawking a get-rich-quick scheme or something like that, sorry, e-bay substituted their most popular page of the day because no Medallion Gold is available on the date you're viewing this :-)
