Dacrotising on Brass

I have come across a surface treatment process called "Dacrotising" on brass pipes used in the automobile radiators. I would like to know what is this process? What are its advantages vis-a-vis nickel-chrome plating?

Hi, Rajiv. You can find out more about Dacrotising from the supplier Metal Coatings International, but basically, Dacrotising is a process of coating a part with aluminum and zinc flakes. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but it's a functional coating rather than a coating that competes aesthetically with nickel-chrome.

Nickel-chrome is a barrier layer coating whereas dacrotising is a sacrificial coating. So, if the part is subject to being seriously scratched, the Dacrotising is probably a better choice. If not, it depends on the environment, but either coating might last a decade or more. Good luck.
