Resource for Metal Composition/Characteristics

+

Does anyone know of a reference guide or internet site for information on the various constituents and/or characteristics of metals and their alloys. Many times, I am asked about the metallic composition of a substrate and its performance relative to plating and the performance of the part electronically. I have never really found general information in one source that gives you metal percentages, density, tensile strengths, melting points, conductivity and so on. It would be a great resource for those of us plating electronics.

You might contact the American Society for Metals (ASM), the National Institute for Science and Technology, or ASTM.

I think James is right, Jeff. I don't think you'll find it for free on the internet. Such compilations are extremely costly to produce and are found in books that cost $400 and up. I don't see the economic model that would permit it except via some kind of Lexus/Nexis deal where you pay a substantial hourly rate to search, or a transfer rate to download it -- and frankly the net has accustomed people away from paying for access that way.

I'd get a catalog of books from ASM and tell purchasing you're going to need to buy a few
