Tarnishing coins for science project

My son is doing a science fair project for his school. He needs to know any ways to tarnish brass or coins without the actual process of aging. If you could write back before the end of the month, that would be very helpful due to the fact that this is due in March, 2001.

I'd try heat as one, water as a second, wet salt as a third, and bleach as a fourth. They're not all guaranteed to tarnish the coins, but they are likely to educate.
