Passivation time limits for pre-bond treatment

+

We have recently come across a requirement for pre-bond treatment of Stainless Steels. This involves Passivation, Degreasing and the Priming. The parts are supplied to us already in the passivated condition.

My question is do we need to re-passivate prior to degreasing or will this passivated state remain unaltered during storage? Can we just head straight for the degreasing stage?

Ciaron: If the parts are relatively new, have not been mishandled and have not been exposed to a lot of adverse conditions (rain, etc.) the passivated surface should still be in the condition that you received them. If they are austenitic stainless, for sure they should be good.

Inspect the parts, especially welds if there are any. If there is rust or other corrosion on them, they need to be repassivated. If not, they are fine, assuming that the original passivation was good.

Feel free to contact us if you have further questions. Lee
