Titration for iron in sulfuric acid needed

.

Does anyone know of a simple titration for iron concentration in a sulfuric acid bath for plating operations. I would like to be able to determine the iron level to establish a tank dump schedule.

thanks

At this point, it is really a question of whether a titration would really work. You don't mention what concentration you expect to find. This determination is usually done instrumentally, AA, ICP, etc. Titrations normally require much higher concentrations to be effective.

The purpose of this titration is to determine when to dump the sulfuric acid bath. I am looking for a titration to determine iron concentrations in the grams per liter range and we would expect to dump the bath at approximately 15 grams/Liter.

A good titration procedure can be found in "ASM Handbook" Volume 5: Surface Engineering. Look for references that deal with pickling or descaling.

There are two methods, based on permanganate and dichromate respectively, given in "Analysis of Electroplating and Related Solutions" [linked by editor to info about book at Amazon]

I have a similar question regarding the determination of iron in an hydrochloric acid bath. We are looking to find a simple titration that would allow us to measure iron in the range of .5 grams and 10 grams per liter.

Thanks.
