Looking for consistent Type III Class 1 Anodize

July 14, 2009

Hi

I represent a manufacturer of high-end scuba diving equipment. We are having a nightmare time getting consistent anodizing on 6061-T6 aluminium parts.

We are looking for Type III Class 1 engineered hardcoat, 2 mil thickness. The parts should end up with a natural dark grey color, and smooth finish.

We are looking for a supplier located in/around Chatsworth California USA (near our machine shop) or in Greater Vancouver, Canada (near our office).

We have recently faced the following problems:
- uneven anodizing coats, with black buildup in certain areas
- white residue in screwholes (acid buildup)
- black colored anodize submitted instead of hard anodize
- transparent anodize (looked silver) instead of colorless hard anodize (naturally turns grey)
- most recently, tacky surface because the supplier didn't seal the parts properly.

If you are a supplier with a proven track record of consistency, we would like to hear from you.

Good Anodize

Bad Anodize
