Flash Hard Chrome Plating - Clarification

April 27, 2009

Dear Sir,

Am a process engineer (Machining), in one of our drawing I came across a note stating ID & face of a flange bore should be "Flash Hard Chrome Plated Polished Plating to a min case depth of 25 micron".
Kindly clarify:
1)What is Flash Hard Chrome Plating.
2)Whether the above stated plating can be done by normal chrome plating process or requires a special process?

Awaiting for your reply.

With Regards,

Hi, Yogeswaran. "Case depth" doesn't sound like appropriate terminology to describe chromium plating; and 25 microns hardly sounds like a "flash". Although it sounds like plating that would be done from a conventional hard chromium plating bath, frankly, it sounds to me like a spec written by someone who isn't very familiar with the process.
