Reworking Chrome plating on Nickel plating.

.

Hello,

As a commercial plating shop, we generate about 2 -5 % of our Nickel Chrome plated parts with Chrome burning at the edges. Classic cases are car seat headrest rods whose tips jut out .

Our problem lies in reworking these rods with chrome plating without peel off. Presently we strip the chrome off in HCL and anodic etch in NaOH solution prior to Chrome plating. Does anyone have a better suggestion ?

Help is as always much appreciated, thanks in advance

I would assume that it would be cheaper to prevent the burn by rounding the corners of the rod, lowering the high current density area, or using a thief, probably a piece of stiff wire or a shield, probably an appropriate length and diameter piece of pvc pipe appropriately attached and positioned.
