Help translating a German Plating Spec

June 17, 2008

I have a machined part drawing that is in German and we are trying to decipher the plating specification. The base material is 1213/1215 steel and the callout is as follows:

Oberflaeche Rz 10 : nach: N67F 826 10; matt, ZnNi - Legierung, transparent passiviert und versiegelt.

This is a Bosch drawing, as someone mentioned it may be a proprietary reference number. The speculation is that this is a Zinc Clear plating, but it appears it may also be a Tin-Nickel which I've never heard of. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Randy,

N67F 826 10 is the number of a BOSCH specification, maybe you can ask the people over at Wolverine Plating Corporation for more details about it, as they list it in one of their PDF documents:

http://www.wolverineplating.com/speclist.pdf

The whole expression you quoted can be translated as follows (I am a native speaker):

Surface Rz 10 : according to: N67F 826 10; matt, ZnNi (ZincNickel) - alloy, transparently passivated and sealed.

Hope that helps!
