RHODIUM PLATINUM...WAS I RIPPED OFF?

June 16, 2008

I hope someone can answer my question..
I bought a bracelet off ebay, and the seller told me it was coated with Rhodium Platinum.
The bracelet has alot of shine almost looks like cheap silver.

It only cost less than one hundred dollars. I think it may be copper under the coating because it looks kind of yellow when I scratched off some of the Rhodium Platinum.
Do you think they lied about coating the bracelet with Rhodium Platinum?
I thought this method was expensive? So there for the bracelet cant be rhodium Platinum!
What could it be? I'd hate to give them a bad review if I was wrong!
Thanks so much Sarah.

Hi, Sarah. Rhodium is incredibly expensive -- about ten thousand dollar an ounce. But rhodium plating is incredibly thin. So, yes, a bracelet could be rhodium plated and sell for a hundred dollars. Silver often has a plating of rhodium over it to deter tarnish.
