Matte Nickel by Plating then Electrophoretic Lacquer

June 13, 2008

Hello,

We are doing Matt Finish Nickel Plating on Steel Pipes & Plates. Now we are willing to go for Electrophoretic Lacquer Process. But we have heard that its limitation of this process to get Matt Finish. Is this true?

If possible, please advise how we can get this. Thanks.

Hi, Harish. Please give a few more details because I don't understand the question. You are presently doing matte nickel plating? But now you want to achieve the effect differently -- by doing bright nickel plating and following it with a matte electrophoretic lacquer?

Hello Mooney,

Thanks for reply. Earlier we were doing dip lacquer after Ni plating. To get the matte effect it was easy to add matting agent. But now we have replaced the dip lacquer by electrophoretic. In this we are not getting the matte effect like we were getting earlier. If we add the matting agent to get the desired effect then complete system may get blocked.

I am not expert but this is what our suppliers have reasons that they can not get the matte finish in electrophoretic process as in dip lacquer. But being in Lighting Industry the finish is one of most important parameter for us. Appreciate your suggestions. Thanks. Harish Jakhar

Hi. I don't have sufficient specialization in ecoating to be able to help you resolve this, but this website's supporting advertiser Coatec India may be able to help.
