Need paint removed from metal medicine cabinets [California]

I have 2 old metal medicine cabinets I got out of an old apt in NYC that have been painted many times.. the paint is probably lead based. I tried chipping it off, its thick, but that really isn't working. so I'm wondering how to do it. is it possible to have them sand blasted? or bead blasted? how dangerous is working w/ chemicals and the lead paint?
I live in n. Calif so if you know of a place out here to have it done that won't cost a fortune I'd appreciate it.
